Ground Zero, New York 2003

Here are some shots from Ground Zero in New York. They had erected a fence around the excavation zone, so it wasn't possible to see very much, but it was still very moving to be there. I still can't get it into my head, the enormity of the tragedy that took place there. Even a year and a half after the event, the area was crowded with people who wanted to be there in person.

Here are some pictures from the site.

This memorial was a few blocks away. People from all over the world had decorated kitchen tiles with messages about 9/11 and hung them up on a chain link fence. The fence was a couple of hundred meters long and there must have been thousands of tiles. The idea was touching, and some of the messages to those we lost were really heartbreaking.
