Just got my first webchat in with my friend Diana in San Diego. Man, I just love the technology... Very Max Headroom. I especially dig that my pic is screenlit in the dead of night, and Diana's has sunlight streaming through the window...
But now I gotta go to bed. Cec and I are off to Sweden after work tomorrow to visit our friend Magnus. He told us not to forget to bring a bottle of gin, so it sounds like the start of an interesting weekend.

Great picture from AFP. He should really play a bad guy on TV. Maybe a made-for-cable movie...
Here's what I look like at one in the morning on a worknight, in the middle of an insomnia attack.

I had a very detailed and pretty bad dream last night, which I won't go into because it was a little on the heavy side. But maybe I'd be a little less tense these days if I could have more of the light-falling-on-stone architecture dreams, and fewer slow-slide-towards-nuclear-annihilation dreams... Some days I just don't know what's wrong with me.
Just put up some phonecam shots I took in New York a few weeks ago... click the pic to go there. God I love New York.

I love this...
Political action using frilly underwear... I especially like the pro-sex, anti-Bush slogans, like "Panties for Peace," "Down on Bush," "Screw Bush," "Drill Bush not Oil," and my favorite- "Give Bush the Finger."
Cheers to Kelly Sue, by way of Die Puny Humans
I just heard from Jeremy that there's a hack for iChatAV called iChatUSBCam that lets you use a USB cam with it. Just downloaded the thing, but no time to test it. More later.
I just had an exhausting but satisfying day.
I'm under the threat of like two dozen non-disclosure agreements, so I can't go into the details, but I recently learned that my company was on the way to announce a global marketing campaign, and the name they chose happened to be the name of a major American bombing campaign in the prosecution of a war we lost a couple of decades ago.
So I started fighting this and worked my way up the system, and today, I won. I had a con-call with one of the heavies, laid out the facts. Like maybe in this time of incredible global sensitivity about the application of American military power, there might be better names to use. I heard dead silence on the other end of the line, then the magic words, "Well, uh, we'll have to change it."
Some days I really want to go into politics... not to actually run for anything because I'm not smart enough to apply the self-control that requires. But I could see myself in George Stephanopoulos's old job. I love this kind of fight, and I love winning even more.
So I was trying to figure out why iChat doesn't recognize the Logitech USB webcam I brought back from the States. After poking around for about an hour, I saw that iChat only works with FireWire webcams. Great, thanks a lot guys. What a kick in the stones. It's not like I can pop back to the shop in New York were I got the cam and trade it in for another. Why Apple would only support FireWire, when almost all of the cams I've seen use USB (except for the iSight of course) is beyond me.
I just downloaded AIM and will try to get that to work with the cam. But I think I gotta pick this battle up again tomorrow if I can get home before 9 pm. I'm still wiped out from yesterday's bachelor party for my friend Anton. It turned into a looong night.
I'm still working on getting the pics from the last US trip up. I've had zero personal time since I got back, and it's killing me. I got a book on Zen meditation from this awesome bookstore Hannah took me to in Chicago. I guess it was more of a gesture of intent than anything else, because I'll be unlikely to have the time to read it, much less practice the techniques it teaches. Yeah yeah, complain complain...
Must sleep.

I'm sorry, this is bad, I know. But someone sent me this at work and it gave me some badly needed comic relief. The headline had me worried, and then when I saw the picture I almost got tears in my eyes from laughing.

Picked up a webcam when I was in the US... finally got the thing operational. So who out there has a cam running and feels like drinking a transoceanic toast?
Man, where do I start? I got back from two weeks in the US on Sunday night, and have taken the last week to get rid of my jetlag and try to catch up on work. It was a marathon trip- Tampa, New York, Fargo and Chicago... I still haven't figured out what to say about it, except that New York was wonderful as always, and Chicago rocked! I'd never been outside O'Hare before, and am lucky enough to have my friend Hannah living in Chicago, so I was able to take a long layover in the windy city. It was so much fun, good food, good bars, cool people (and rents are cheap). I saw "The Fog of War," the McNamara movie while I was there too... more on that soon. I have some photos from the trip to put up. Expect more ASAP.
