Are our iPods actually sentient? It's something I've thought about before. Mine definitely has good moods and bad moods. Some days I'll get solid feelgood uptempo while biking to work and an eclectic noötropic mix when I'm trying to be creative... and then there are days when the thing just can't seem to get it together. Stereolab followed by KMFDM, or long lost cheesy 80s tracks popping up when I least expect them.
Here's what the New York Times has to say.
Posted by case at August 26, 2004 08:39 AMi believe my ipod is bipolar. it's been trying to score zoloft from the local soccer moms. bad ipod! bad!
Posted by: jeremy at August 26, 2004 11:09 PMAll I know is, my Pod is bound and determined that I listen to David Bowie's Heathen and the soundtrack to Until the End of the World as often as possible. I'm not sure why, but they pop up pretty much every time I reset, and damned if I don't skip through them 9 times out of 10.
Is a puzzlement.
But yeah, sometimes it freaks me out: going to Portland last week, it decided to play a Nirvana album right before we drove by Aberdeen, WA, and then played Tragically Hip (one of my few Canadian bands) when I was pulling into Portland, where my (Canadian) girlfriend lives.
